Botox is the well-known brand name for Botulinum type A, although there are other brands available Strata uses Botox.
Botox works by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. Facial expressions are created by repeated muscle contractions and over time these repeated contractions cause lines and wrinkles. Botox can help to soften these wrinkles that occur on facial movement. The substance is injected into the muscle and prevents the nerve impulse that causes the muscle to contract.
Botox is mainly used in the upper face to relax wrinkles on movement but can also be used for specific areas in the lower face; to tighten the jawline and improve a droopy mouth appearance. Depending on your specific requirements a combination of Botox and dermal filler is often used to achieve the desired result.
We can also treat excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis) with Botox.
A very small amount of the substance is injected superficially (just under the skin’s surface) with a tiny needle into the muscle causing the wrinkle. The number of injections varies according to the area treated. These injections are not usually painful and local anaesthetic cream is not normally required. There may be a little bruising afterwards but we use our skills and expertise to prevent this as much as possible.
Individual response to treatment can vary. The effect of Botox will become apparent within a few days to 2 weeks after the treatment. This effect lasts between 3-6 months and gently wears off.
